Red and Irritated Skin
Red, burning, or irritated skin is one of the most common skin reactions to cancer treatment – whether as a result of radiotherapy or a reaction to targeted therapy. Below you'll find Oncos products that soothe, protect, and help skin recover faster.
Why skin turns red and becomes irritated during treatment — Radiotherapy affects the skin in the treated area much like sun exposure: the skin first turns red, becomes more sensitive to touch, may peel, and can even weep in skin folds. This reaction is known medically as radiodermatitis, and its severity varies between patients depending on radiation dose and skin sensitivity. Similar skin reactions can also occur with targeted biological therapy, which often causes an acne-like rash, most commonly on the face, chest, and back.
What helps the skin during this time — Gentle cleansing without rubbing or harsh cleansers, regularly applying soothing, fragrance-free products, protecting the treated area from the sun and mechanical irritation (tight clothing, hot water), and avoiding peels or other aggressive cosmetic treatments on the irritated area.
Oncos products for red and irritated skin — The Oncos range is developed specifically for skin under the strain of cancer treatment – dermatologically tested, free from fragrance and harsh ingredients, with clinically proven soothing and healing effects, suitable for use during radiotherapy as well (after consulting your care team).
If you experience severe burning, weeping, an open wound, or signs of infection, please contact your treating physician or radiotherapy team.
