Oncos Clinical Study: Dermatological Care for Cancer Patients
Oncos commissioned a clinical study to investigate the impact of specialized dermocosmetic care on cancer patients. The research was conducted by ASST Bergamo Est in Italy and aimed to determine whether the use of Oncos products can improve women's quality of life during cancer treatment.
In Italy, approximately 175,000 cases of cancer were diagnosed in women in 2019, with breast cancer being the most common diagnosis. Although surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormonal therapy increase the chance of survival, they also bring unwanted skin side effects. These changes can significantly affect the physical and psychological well-being of patients.
Study Objective
The study aimed to determine how the dermatological side effects of treatment affect the body image, emotional balance and quality of life of patients. At the same time, it was verified whether targeted dermocosmetic care can alleviate these symptoms.
Procedure and methodology
The study involved 61 women diagnosed with breast cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. They were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group used Oncos cream, while the control group received a regular moisturizer (Vaseline).
For 28 days, the participants completed three key questionnaires:
- Skindex-16: measures symptoms, emotional and social functioning of the skin,
- Body Image Scale: examines a woman's relationship to her own body during treatment,
- WHOQOL-Bref: assesses physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships and environment.
Results and benefits of Oncos dermocosmetics
After just 7 days of using Oncos products, patients experienced a visible improvement in symptoms such as itching, dryness and redness. After 28 days, women in the experimental group also experienced a significant increase in satisfaction with their appearance and body, greater self-confidence and an improved perception of their own well-being.
In contrast, women in the control group who used the generic cream did not experience such an improvement. Clinical data confirm that targeted dermocosmetic care significantly contributes to improving the quality of life of cancer patients – not only physically, but also psychologically and socially.
Conclusion
The study shows that skin care during treatment is not just a matter of comfort. It has a deeper impact on the psychological balance, self-perception and overall satisfaction of patients. The Oncos brand thus brings real support where it is needed most.
